About The Position

Position administers DelDOT construction projects in New Castle County, DE. Duties include interpretation of contract plans and specifications, coordination and chairing Preconstruction and Progress Meetings, reviewing and responding to Contractor requests for information or change orders, negotiating new pricing for changes to contracts, reviewing and commenting on plans in development, drafting contract related correspondence, supervising field inspection staff, coordinating with other sections of the Department, and other duties as required. Drafts, develops and modifies engineering designs, plans and specifications. Reviews permit applications, blueprints and/or designs prepared by others to ensure compliance with specifications and regulations. Applies the principles and theories of science and mathematics to research and develop solutions to technical problems. Plans and conducts field studies, surveys, research and development projects, inspections and/or investigations to collect data and ensure conformance to state/federal laws and regulations. Tests or evaluates materials, equipment, systems and facilities. Plans and coordinates engineering projects. Reviews, analyzes and reports on the status of projects and/or regulatory conformance. Develops cost estimates for project time and materials. Provides technical guidance and training to technical staff.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
  • Possession of a valid Delaware Professional Engineering License OR Possession of a valid Professional Engineering license issued by a proper authority of a state, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia, or a province or territory of Canada.
  • Six months experience as a project engineer in one or more of the discipline(s) of engineering shown below which includes managing engineering programs and projects.

  • Material Science Engineering
  • Knowledge of staff supervision acquired through course work, academic training, training provided through an employer, or performing as a lead worker overseeing the work of others; OR supervising staff which may include planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others; OR supervising through subordinate supervisors a group of professional, technical, and clerical employees.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • As a condition of hire you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
  • A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.
  • Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.
  • All new hires are required to report to the Statewide New Employee Orientation (SNEO) on their first day of employment.
