About The Position

The BAE Systems Space and Mission Systems’ (SMS) Facilities & Plant Operations teams support the sector's 35 properties representing over 2.2 million SF of real estate in Colorado. This established team of over 90 Facilities professionals is committed to service and support, continuous improvement, and creating and maintaining facilities which enable world class engineers and technicians to create a better, safer, and more informed and productive world. The Facilities Engineering team provides facilities designs and engineering guidance across BAE Systems campuses in Westminster, Broomfield, and Boulder. We are seeking a candidate to be the energy engineering technical expert for the Facilities & Plant Operations organization. In this role, the successful candidate will take the lead in enhancing resource management in our organization, including energy and water conservation. This includes developing a robust resource management strategy, providing guidance on energy efficient designs for new construction, auditing existing facilities, acting on resource conservation opportunities, tracking results, and reporting progress. The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution – from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the-art manufacturing and test operations and top-notch facilities management.

Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 6 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level related degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of related experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • Experience with industrial facilities, buildings, equipment, systems, and operations including chillers, boilers, VFD’s, and air handling equipment.
  • Knowledge of DDC applications pertaining to building automation systems and energy efficiency.
  • Ability to calculate energy savings and associated costs savings.
  • Knowledge of building energy modeling methods and software, including Comcheck.
  • Highly analytical critical thinker who uses these skills to examine and improve operations to increase efficiency.
  • Excellent communication skills with proven ability to communicate to all levels of the organization.
  • Solid organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Success working with project teams up front to advocate for energy efficiency opportunities.
  • Experience creating justifications and business cases to invest in energy efficiency projects.
  • Ability to manage work schedule, track actions, follow through, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computer software; Microsoft Office Suite.
  • A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

  • Preferred credentials include Professional Engineer, Certified Energy Auditor (Association of Energy Engineers), Certified Energy Engineer (Association of Energy Engineers), Building Energy Assessment Professional (ASHRAE), High-Performance Building Design Professional (ASHRAE), Building Commissioning Professional (ASHRAE), LEED AP.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a resource conservation program to include energy and water conservation.
  • Create and track meaningful metrics to document the effectiveness of the resource conservation program.
  • Regularly report on resource efficiency programs and metrics. This includes reports required by governmental stakeholders as well as reporting required within BAE Systems.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to support resource efficiency projects and programs.
  • Develop and publish standards and processes to drive resource efficient project designs and maintenance practices.
  • Identify resource saving opportunities for buildings, controls/automations, HVAC, heating systems, lighting, production equipment, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Collect utility, facility, operations, and other data needed to identify and track Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs).
  • Perform or supervise facility audits to identify ECMs.
  • Create a prioritized portfolio of resource conservation measures and execute on efforts to take advantage of these opportunities.
  • Work with controls experts and maintenance technicians to monitor, analyze and optimize controls sequences for efficiency.
  • Create energy models of existing and proposed buildings, as needed.
  • Lead engagement with our manufacturing teams and business units to identify and implement resources conservation measures in our production processes.
  • Provide strategic energy and water conserving design advice to in-house engineers and consulting engineers.
  • Work closely with BAE Systems maintenance personnel, engineering personnel, and contractors on energy efficient strategies and practices.
  • Review new designs for resource efficiency opportunities.
  • Research and analyze new energy efficiency concepts and industry trends.
  • Capture rebates and incentives as they are available.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
