About The Position

The Principal Engineer -Test Facilities Electrical serves as a recognized subject matter expert and provides advanced technical leadership to the Greenville Technology Lab team. This role is responsible for driving engineering excellence, supporting mid-level complexity projects, and mentoring next generation engineers. The Principal Engineer – Test Facilities Electrical collaborates cross-functionally to drive risk management while fostering innovative solutions to meet business and customer solutions. Demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives in field of electrical engineering. Integrates and develops robust electrical processes that meet business needs across the organization. Involved in long-term planning. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within test facilities electrical infrastructure across Medium Voltage and Low Voltage systems, with a focus on electrical generation, protection, and medium-voltage distribution equipment. Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet near term and long-range engineering needs in the following: Safety Leadership: Champion electrical safety practices, including LOTO procedures, NFPA 70E compliance, and arc flash mitigation strategies. Design & Engineering: Lead facility electrical system design, commissioning, operations, and troubleshooting across HV/MV/LV systems. Project Leadership: Provide primary technical direction for facility-based projects, coordinating with GE Vernova teams, EPCs, and vendor partners. Chair Design Reviews. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical and process engineers to integrate electrical systems into broader facility designs and author/edit design practices. Vendor & Package Management: Manage electrical equipment packages end-to-end, including RFQs, bid evaluations, vendor drawing reviews, FATs, and commissioning. Technical Documentation: Develop detailed electrical specifications, load lists, one-line/three-line diagrams, area classifications, and technical procedures. Author/edit Design Practices. System Studies: Perform advanced electrical studies (load flow, short circuit, relay coordination, motor starting, arc flash) using ETAP, SKM, or similar tools. Calculate and escalate Technical Risks Global Standards Compliance: Apply NEC, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, API, OSHA, and other international standards to facility designs. Mentorship: Act as a senior technical resource, guiding junior engineers and technicians. Communication: Prepare clear technical reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and external customers. Provide technical consultation on electrical issues throughout the business including supplier and field support Assist team with Technical rigor to develop safe, high quality products while being actively Engaged during design process Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact. Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state-of-the-art electrical engineering design in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs. Exercise Curiosity by striving for improved products & processes to support customers Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues. Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters. Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs. Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company. Be a Helpful resource to all levels of engineering team and encourage dialogue between all groups

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science
  • At least 8 additional years of experience in an engineering capacity
  • Professional experience in electrical engineering

  • Strong grounding, cable sizing, breaker coordination, and electrical room layout expertise.
  • Experience with power generation facilities, transmission/distribution systems, and high-voltage equipment testing.
  • Working knowledge of global electrical codes and standards (NEC, CEC, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, API, ABS, OSHA).
