About The Position

Designs, analyzes, and documents new or existing packaging from the requirements provided. Creates and sustains specifications using engineering analysis and judgment. Oversees the development and testing of packaging prototypes. Communicates and coordinates with vendors to obtain information and assistance Position Responsibilities may include: Create, revise, and sustain Packaging designs, utilizing knowledge of packaging engineering principles. Develop and manage project schedules related to new and existing packaging designs. Partner with Assembly, Production Engineering, Marketing and Logistics to drive projects to enable the most efficient delivery of parts possible without sacrificing quality or manufacturability Provide design direction and development plans of protective packaging containers, dunnage, and unique shipping racks – domestic Work with Packaging Engineers to develop world-class packaging standards and continue to improve upon them Drive sustainability initiatives Oversee primary unit design changes and collaborate with Design Engineering and Reliability to define transit test plans and define success criteria Document packaging designs by preparing bills of materials, cost analyses, drawings, and engineering change requests. Lead end-to-end engineered packaging projects Collaborate with Product Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Marketing, and Operations partners to gather and develop packaging requirements Conduct Transit Testing using ISTA & ASTM procedures, includes but not limited to Sweep & Dwell, Vibration testing, Drop Testing, Incline Impact, Compression Testing Collaborate with Product Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Marketing, and Operations partners to develop cost improvement projects, material cost reduction projects, and VAVE projects. Perform additional projects/duties to support ongoing business needs. Nature & Scope: Possesses a broad theoretical job knowledge typically obtained through advanced education Has no discretion to deviate from established procedures by performing structured work assignments Work is closely supervised Problems faced are not typically difficult nor complex Explains facts, policies and practices related to job area

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of CAD, and technical drawings, GD&T and tolerance stack up analysis
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, palletizing, stretch wrapping, labeling etc.
  • Strong knowledge in a large variety of materials (corrugated, plastic film, wood, foam, etc.)
  • Experience with design and test standards such as ASTM, ISTA, Tappi, ISO, PMMII etc.
  • Strong understanding of lab packaging testing and validation
  • Capable of managing multiple priorities at once without sacrificing quality of results
  • Proficient at-risk management and communication
  • Team player with strong process and continuous improvement mindset
  • 0 – 2 years of experience in package design and engineering
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging, Manufacturing, or Engineering
