The Engineer Packaging is responsible for designing, developing, and qualifying packaging configurations for pharmaceutical products, including creation of PLEX cases, cartons, trays, and other components. The packaging engineer will lead other packaging related projects related to automation and/or process improvement initiatives. The role ensures packaging designs meet regulatory requirements, function efficiently on manufacturing lines, and support supply chain, quality, and commercial needs. This position works closely with Validation, Packaging Operations, Supply Chain, vendors, and Regulatory Affairs. Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years experience in pharmaceutical or regulated packaging engineering.
• Experience creating packaging designs, drawings, and technical documentation.
• Experience leading packaging qualifications on automated lines.
• Familiarity with GMP, FDA, and global packaging regulations.
• Experience working with vendors and managing packaging development projects.
• Strong technical packaging knowledge.
• Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration.
• Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Skilled in CAD or packaging design software
• Ability wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, gloves, hairnets, and other gowning as required.
• Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout packaging and production areas for extended periods.
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move materials up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to perform visual inspections of packaging components, including the ability to read small text.
• Ability to support on-the-floor activities
• Ability to access various areas of the facility, including climbing stairs, walking between buildings, or accessing elevated platforms when required.
• Ability to work in environments with varying noise levels

Responsibilities

• Design and develop packaging components including cartons, trays, inserts, PLEX cases, and secondary packaging.
• Develop packaging configuration drawings, specifications, BOMs, and change controls.
• Lead packaging process qualifications ensuring new configurations run efficiently on production lines.
• Collaborate with Validation, Packaging Operations, Quality, Regulatory, and Supply Chain.
• Conduct line trials, assess machinability, and document qualification results.
• Manage vendor interactions including packaging suppliers, printers, and tooling vendors.
• Ensure all packaging meets regulatory and GMP requirements.
• Support audits, deviations, CAPA, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Prepare and present change controls in change control committee.
• Lead other packaging related projects (automation and/or other process improvement initiatives)
• Oversee any supplier material changes. This includes change control creation, alignment and business impact assessment.
• Manage and execute change controls for all packaging and production BOM items, including creation, impact assessment, documentation updates, and cross‑functional alignment.
