About The Position

The Engineer, Operations Systems at Midcontinent Independent System Operator Inc. in Eagan, MN will provide Engineering and Compliance support to MISO’s Power System control room Balancing and Dispatch functions within System Operations. Ensure reliable and good quality output from Balancing and Dispatch-related Energy Management System (EMS) and Day Ahead and Real-Time Energy and Ancillary Services Market (DART) advanced application systems. Support enhancements, tests, and fixes to resolve Automatic Generation Control, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and DART Real-Time Market problems. Conduct testing of software changes to Balancing and Dispatch-related EMS and DART applications as well as Contingency Reserve Sharing Group (CRSG) applications, ensuring these applications produce consistent and credible results. Provide subject-matter-expertise in support of interpreting BA-related NERC requirements, developing RSAWs, assessing and documenting compliance evidence, and representing MISO and the CRSG during compliance audits. Support the update and maintenance of EMS models and inputs including SCADA, ICCP, Generation models etc. and interacting with MISO members and first-tier companies to ensure various business area objectives, relating to accurate and up-to-date models, are achieved. Apply advanced power system engineering techniques to generate and analyze options and make recommendations while considering how the solution(s) may change or impact the organization. Examine and integrate routine as well as highly complex and unpredictable technical data from multiple sources crossing departmental boundaries. Design, develop, and test applications, software, and tools to support Balancing and Dispatch functions. Telecommuting permitted as business needs allow up to two days per week. Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
  • 2 years of experience in an electrical engineer occupation or related occupation.
  • 2 years of experience with power system and market operation, planning, modeling, and system analysis
  • 2 years of experience with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
  • 2 years of experience with electric power markets
  • 2 years of experience with energy management system applications
  • 2 years of experience with Automatic Generation Control (AGC)
  • 2 years of experience with Python and C/C++

Responsibilities
