About The Position

Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications. May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures. This position is intended for Virginia Class Submarine (VCS) and Columbia Class Submarine (CLB) Hull Treatment group in the Coatings Technology and Material Engineering Department. The incumbent will perform engineering services and troubleshooting for Hull Treatment installations at NNS and off-site. This position requires effective communication with internal and external customers (Electric Boat, Navy, and Suppliers). The incumbent must be able and willing to work in an industrial environment and occasionally support off-shift and/or weekend duties.

Requirements

  • Must HaveBachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
  • Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
  • Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
