About The Position

The Engineer III is responsible for responding to and attending to guest repair requests, communicating with guests to resolve maintenance issues with minimal supervision, and performing preventive maintenance on tools and equipment. This role involves visually inspecting tools, equipment, or machines, carrying necessary equipment, and identifying/operating shut-off valves. The Engineer III maintains maintenance inventory, requisitions parts, and ensures effective communication of daily activities and problems across shifts. Key responsibilities include displaying advanced ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics for plumbing and HVAC, possessing above-average engineering operations skills, and strong general mechanical ability. The position requires proficiency in at least three engineering categories (e.g., air conditioning, electrical, plumbing) and above-average skills in three more, along with basic skills in the remaining categories. The Engineer III must demonstrate solid knowledge and safe use of hand and power tools, perform complex repairs on physical property, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, refrigeration, and pool equipment, ensuring compliance with company standards and codes. Troubleshooting and repairing various types of equipment, plumbing, and electrical systems are essential, as is using the Lockout/Tagout system. The role also involves advanced knowledge of engineering computer programs for preventative maintenance and energy management, advanced troubleshooting of hotel MEP systems, and the ability to train and mentor other engineers. Additionally, the Engineer III performs Engineer on Duty responsibilities, adheres to company safety and security policies, reports hazards, completes training, maintains professional appearance, protects company assets, and provides excellent guest service. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds, moving up and down stairs/ladders, and reaching.

Requirements

  • Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certification
  • Meet applicable state and federal certification and/or licensing requirements
  • Advanced ability to read standard blue prints and electrical schematics concerning plumbing and HVAC
  • Above average engineering operations skills
  • Strong general mechanical ability
  • Proficiency in at least three of the following categories: air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems and controls, carpentry and finish skills, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and/or general building management
  • Above average skills in three more of the following categories: air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems and controls, carpentry and finish skills, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and/or general building management
  • Basic skills in the remaining categories: air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems and controls, carpentry and finish skills, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and/or general building management
  • Solid knowledge and skill in the safe use of hand and power tools and other materials required to perform repair and maintenance tasks
  • Advanced knowledge of all engineering computer programs related to preventative maintenance, energy management, and other systems, including devices that interact with such programs

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and vocational or technical background
  • Extensive experience and training in general maintenance, electrical or refrigeration, parts inventory and requisition, exterior and interior surface preparation and painting
  • At least 2 years of hotel engineering/maintenance experience
  • No supervisory experience
  • Valid Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Respond and attend to guest repair requests
  • Communicate with guests/customers to resolve maintenance issues with little to no supervision
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, including cleaning and lubrication
  • Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines
  • Carry equipment (e.g., tools, radio)
  • Identify, locate, and operate all shut-off valves for equipment
  • Maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies as needed
  • Assure each day’s activities and problems that occur are communicated to the other shifts using approved communication programs and standards
  • Safely perform highly complex repairs of the physical property, electrical, plumbing and mechanical equipment, air conditioners, refrigeration and pool heaters - ensuring all methods, materials and practices meet company standards and Local and National codes - with little or no supervision
  • Troubleshoot and perform repairs on all types of equipment (e.g., pump and motor replacement), plumbing (e.g., plunge toilets and unclog drains), electrical equipment including lamps, air conditioners, HVAC equipment, cosmetic items, extension cords, vacuum cleaners, internet devices, replace electrical switches and outlets, and program TV's
  • Use the Lockout/Tagout system before performing any maintenance work
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of hotel Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems
  • Train and mentor other engineers as necessary
  • Perform Engineer on Duty responsibilities, including readings and rounds
  • Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures
  • Report any maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries
  • Complete safety training and certifications
  • Properly store flammable materials
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearances are clean and professional
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information
  • Protect company assets
