About The Position

Iridium is seeking a Modeling and Simulation Systems Engineer II to join our Government Programs Solutions Engineering Team on a Space Development Agency (SDA) project. As a Modeling and Simulation Systems Engineer, you will work on the high-fidelity physics-based and requirements-based modeling for analysis of space and ground network systems. You will use state-of-the-art simulation tools and data-driven analysis to support system design, integration, testing, operations, and troubleshooting. If you enjoy modeling complex technical problems and finding innovative solutions – especially in space and ground networks – then we want to talk to you!

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 2+ years of related system engineering experience for complex technical projects, preferably direct experience in telecommunications, ground networks, electronic products development/manufacturing, or satellites
  • Ability to work on U.S. Government programs (CUI (Controlled Unclassified Information))
  • Curiosity and tenacity to find optimal technical solutions and defend with data
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly present information and ideas to others
  • Confidence to easily build meaningful relationships with others
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks, identify and correct mistakes, and ask for help when needed
  • Be active in seeking out ways to improve yourself, gain new knowledge, and share knowledge with teammates
  • US Citizenship required
  • Work in the office at least 3 days a week to foster collaboration with the team and stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in engineering or related field OR equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience with Systems Tool Kit (STK), AFSIM, similar physical modeling software, or network modeling software
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering software and languages such as MagicDraw/Cameo and SysML/UML or similar languages
  • Programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, etc.
  • Working knowledge of networking, routers, switches, satellites, orbital mechanics, etc.
  • Familiarity with Atlassian Tool Suite (R4J, Jira, Confluence, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Perform simulations and analyses that ensure system designs meet technical performance targets. Analyses may include satellite or ground system design, optical or radio frequency link budgets, network connectivity and capacity, or other operational scenarios.
  • Support and conduct system analysis (functional & performance), interface definition, and detailed trade studies to inform architecture tradeoffs
  • Model complex space and ground network architectures for new system functionality
  • Build relationships with stakeholders to understand their technical needs and collaborate to find optimal solutions using data from high-fidelity physics, network, and software simulation tools
  • Analyze data and use it to apply new ideas and approaches, such as designing and developing existing and new systems
  • Assist in requirements analysis, definition, decomposition, and management
  • Participate in major reviews such as: Systems Requirements Review (SRR), Preliminary Design Review (PDR), and Program Increment Demonstrations
