About The Position

The Engineer I/II position will be responsible for the engineering and technical tasks primarily supporting Aurora Water's Planning and Development Review Teams. These responsibilities include review of residential, commercial and public works project plans, reports and other development related documents for compliance with Aurora Water Standards. Depending upon the candidate’s skills and abilities the position may also be responsible for capital and design project management. Salary to be commensurate with experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or other directly related Degree from an ABET accredited program.
  • Engineer I: 0-2 years professional level experience, preferably in projects related to water, sewer and storm drain projects. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite software and reporting is considered a plus.
  • Engineer II: 2-4 years professional level experience performing engineering calculations and performing project (or task) management. Preference for prior municipality/utility experience and/or master planning experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • Engineer I, II: Engineer in Training (EIT) / Engineering Intern (EI) license or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
  • Colorado Driver's License with a good driving record
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of engineering drawings, calculations, specifications and project management, contract administration and procurement rules, department policies and procedures
  • Beginner to intermediate ability to utilize critical thinking to perform evaluations and recommend solutions
  • Ability to take on defined tasks and complete those tasks
  • Ability to learn, document and apply technical criteria
  • Ability to read, review, and write technical documentation
  • Demonstrated effective communication with supervisor and teammates
  • Ability to effectively manage consultants/contractors (scope of work, fee, change orders, direction)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with City employees, officials, and the general public
  • Ability to accept feedback graciously and learn from prior experiences
  • Exemplary technical writing and reading skills
  • Introductory to intermediate ability to interact with outside agencies and jurisdictions

Responsibilities

  • Reviews subdivision site plans, construction plans, preliminary and final plats, commercial building plans, and other development-related documents
  • Meets with developers, private engineers, City engineers, and other staff to discuss review comments, design standard requirements and other applicable standards
  • Participates in development issue resolution through the support of field inspection staff and other City staff as necessary
  • Attends pre-application meetings for proposed community developments as a representative of Aurora Water to ensure compliance with Aurora Water Standards and Specifications
  • Perform as a project manager or project management assistant on capital and design projects
  • Performs other duties as assigned
