Overview Under general supervision, the candidate is responsible for the development, maintenance, and publishing of Protection & Control (P&C) standards for Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Substations. This role drives technical consistency across PPL Corporation’s diverse operating companies, including PPL Electric Utilities, Rhode Island Energy, Louisville Gas and Electric, and Kentucky Utilities. The candidate must be a safety-conscious, self-motivated professional who can apply innovative problem-solving and creative thinking to develop novel engineering solutions. Superior communication and presentation skills are essential, as the candidate will frequently consult with cross-functional teams to implement these standards.

Requirements

  • ABET Accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology.
  • ABET Accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology plus 2 years of engineering experience. Utility system operator experience will also be counted as engineering experience.
  • ABET Accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology plus 5 years of engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering plus 3 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Engineering plus 2 years of engineering experience. Utility system operator experience will also be counted as engineering experience.
  • ABET Accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology plus 10 years of engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering plus 8 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Engineering plus 7 years of engineering experience. Utility system operator experience will be counted as engineering experience for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and update engineering (P&C) standards for T&D substations to implement industry best practice.
  • Research and benchmark industry trends including new technologies.
  • Maintain engagement in industry events and conferences, and incorporate new technologies and best practices (occasional travel may be required).
  • Develop RFPs and evaluate proposals from consultants performing standards engineering work on behalf of PPL.
  • Ability to manage engineering contractors as required and work effectively in a diverse team environment.
  • Visit the manufacturer's facilities when requested to inspect and accept new equipment.
  • Work with project teams to review standard exception requests that arise during design or construction.
  • Contribute as a technical consultant on applicable codes, regulations, NERC and NPCC requirements, and company standards.
  • Reinforce a strong safety culture within the group, through daily leadership and constructive behaviors.
  • All other duties and projects as assigned.
