About The Position

This position is responsible for providing engineering support for the reliable operation of the LG&E/KU transmission system. This includes power system modeling and analysis, compliance and internal controls support, and various other projects & tasks that support transmission operations.

Requirements

  • ABET Accredited bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering; coursework in Power Systems is preferred.
  • ABET Accredited bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering plus 2 years of engineering experience. Utility system operator experience will also be counted as engineering experience.
  • ABET Accredited bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering plus 5 years of engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering plus 3 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Engineering plus 2 years of engineering experience. Utility system operator experience will also be counted as engineering experience.
  • ABET Accredited bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering plus 10 years of engineering experience, or a master’s degree in engineering plus 8 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Engineering plus 7 years of engineering experience. Utility system operator experience will be counted as engineering experience for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time engineering support for the reliable operation of the transmission system.
  • Perform analysis using power system software such as PSS/E and TARA.
  • Perform seasonal/annual transmission reliability assessment studies.
  • Provide on-call engineering support to transmission operations, as needed.
  • Develop/maintain automation to improve efficiency performing studies and tasks.
  • Perform analysis using state estimation and contingency analysis tools.
  • Develop/maintain metrics to support transmission operations.
  • Develop/maintain internal controls.
  • Support transmission operations training efforts related to compliance.
  • Support training of Transmission Operations Engineering & Outage Coordination personnel.
  • Support transmission operations in the development and maintenance of compliance documentation.
  • Act as a liaison between transmission operations and other work groups to support corporate compliance initiatives.
  • Coordinate responses to regulatory data requests, questionnaires and assessments.
  • Participate in regulatory audits by preparing RSAWs and presenting evidence.
  • Participates in relevant industry working groups.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and/or suggests improved methods.
  • Gathers, correlates, and analyzes specific data using established procedures.
  • Performs detailed and/or routine engineering assignments involving established calculations, tests, and analysis.
  • Performs a variety of routine tasks to become familiar with the engineering methods, practices, and programs of the company.
  • Supports operating and maintenance functions with problem identification, engineering analysis, and problem resolution activities.
  • Prepares and presents reports giving conclusions of job related engineering activities.
  • Assists other engineers with large projects, as needed.
  • Assists with the development of goals, objectives, budgets, programs, and procedures.
  • Plans and controls all activities so as to provide an accident-free work place.
  • Conducts work activities with regard to environmental rules and regulations.
  • Regularly reviews assignments to assure optimum efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Occasionally directs the activities of coops, supervisors, and others as they perform various activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
