About The Position

The Aftermarket and Sustainment Engineering (ASE) organization is seeking a Design Engineer to join our team at the Columbus Engine Center. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting the Pratt & Whitney GTF™ Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO). As a Design Engineer, you will design solutions for non-conforming hardware to return parts to service and minimize engine work scope increases. Your solutions enable engine centers to perform operations such as blending, drilling, machining, etc. or determine if non-conformance can remain. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with engine run hardware and the assembly/disassembly processes. You'll gain valuable insights into engine functionality and business operations, providing you with an unparalleled opportunity. Interface with Engine Centers in Columbus, GA, Atlanta, Ga, and West Palm Beach, FL to better understand non-conformance and receive required characterization. Investigate OEM and aftermarket engineering data such as engineering drawings, MRO manuals, and field history to understand original design with intent of creating technical data used to return non-conforming hardware back to service. Apply mechanical design principles to complete tolerance stack-ups, balance calculations, bearing area, thread shear capability, and others. Establish repair concept, repair design, and validation substantiation requirements for technical dialog or engineering authorizations relating to repairs and alterations. Obtain internal technical approvals from structures, CIPT design, materials, or Aero. Additionally, secure FAA regulatory approval and coordinate with the end user. Continuously develop or improve design processes and Engineering Standard Work Interface with engine center staff, project engineering, and program management to secure priorities and understand programmatic issues. Cultivate relationships with shop floor inspectors, powerplant engineers, and production engineers to improve customer experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access certain necessary systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Degree
  • Knowledge of or preferably experience with manufacturing processes such as, machining, blending, plating, plasma spray, or brazing
  • Experience in an aerospace overhaul environment such as assembly and disassembly of aircraft power plants
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong organizational skills.
  • Assertive, results-driven, and adept at problem-solving
  • Experience communicating clear and effective messages to a broad audience
  • Experience building professional working relationships
  • Participation in process improvement efforts
