About The Position

Applies electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems. The primary role of this position is the development and deployment of robotics and automation solutions for Newport News Shipbuilding naval construction projects. In this role, you will design, develop, integrate, plan, prototype, research, test, and troubleshoot robotic and manufacturing automation solutions for component fabrication. Additional industrial applications include but are not limited to structural fabrication and assembly, material movement and warehousing. You will create motion and process programming for robotic and automated manufacturing systems. You may also create robotic and automation simulations to assist with throughput and business case analysis. In addition, you might design and create new robotic tooling systems and develop process parameters to improve robot and automation capabilities. You will be expected to perform complex analysis, concept development, design, and prototyping of robotic and automation solutions for shipyard manufacturing applications. You will translate design intent from product models and technical disclosures to automation of manufacturing processes. You will need to understand production processes, up & downstream material requirements, and evaluate if the performance of the production processes achieve design intentions. You will diagnose and troubleshoot production line faults. You will also need to be familiar with object oriented programming. You will create engineering reports, presentations and documents, and work across multiple engineering and technical domains: including vendors, trades, management, senior leadership, and other engineering groups.
