About The Position

Distribution Engineer or Specialist – SWAO This position will be filled as a Distribution Engineer or Specialist with the title/level dependent upon the education, experience, and skills of the successful candidate. This position will be required to handle all day-to-day engineering work activities in an assigned area. Primary job duties include work order preparation to provide service to new customers and to maintain and improve the electrical distribution system. Other duties include handling customer inquiries, reviewing daily trouble reports to address reliability issues, and investigating and resolving customer issues by working with other departments and through Line Crew Operations. There will be opportunities for engineering major projects such as budget items, reliability projects, subdivisions, and large commercial projects. Superior customer service will be expected from the successful candidate. The candidate filling this position is expected to demonstrate a commitment to safety and will also be expected to participate in service restoration efforts, both on and off system.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program preferred
  • Strong background in Distribution or Transmission Construction and/or Engineering preferred
  • Previous experience in service restoration efforts preferred
  • Working knowledge of Distribution Engineering and Construction principles
  • Knowledge of company policies, Rules and Regulations, NEC and NESC
  • Knowledge and experience in company computer applications used by distribution engineers preferred, e.g. JETS, DistGIS, SOCKET, Cyme, DERT, OMS-IDMS
  • Knowledge of distribution coordination schemes and reliability efforts
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work well with employees, customers, developers, consultants, city and state agencies and others
  • Effective time management skills
  • Ability to make sound engineering decisions during emergency situations
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply APC safety and health rules
  • Must be on the Official Switching & Clearance list or possess the ability to achieve in a timely manner
  • Must be available to work outside of normal duty hours in restoring electric service to customers
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment
