As an Automation Engineer you will provide expert support for Building Management Systems (BMS) and Qualified Building Management Systems (QBMS) at our site. In this role, you will oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of automation solutions, ensuring our facility’s systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory standards. You will manage system integrators and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality automation services. You will also support company-wide initiatives such as life cycle management, engineering information management, and cybersecurity, and drive automation governance and standardization across the site. This position ensures the integrity and performance of Tier 1 equipment, automation architecture, and IT systems and solutions that are critical to facility and packaging operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (prefer ME, EE, Chem E) (or equivalent work experience).
  • At least 5 years of experience in automation, machine or process control, or a closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated office software skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, PI (data historian) and collaboration sites
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of cGMP
  • Demonstrated high level of understanding of engineering concepts, 1st principles, and engineering functional standards
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to train and mentor others

Responsibilities

  • Work safely at all times, proactively identifying and implementing improvements in personnel and equipment safety.
  • Ensure that new equipment and automation solutions are designed and operated with safety as a core priority.
  • Serve as a technical leader in automation and controls, collaborating with colleagues to assess, develop, and replicate automation solutions.
  • Manage engineering standards, specifications, and best practices, and provide coaching to other engineers.
  • Deliver automation design and support for BMS/QBMS and other site systems, from project definition through implementation.
  • Optimize designs for functionality, life cycle cost, and simplicity, emphasizing the use of best practices and proven solutions.
  • Stay abreast of industry codes, standards, and trends.
  • Monitor and influence changes to ensure site compliance and extract benchmarking insights from both industry and academic sources.
  • Identify, evaluate, and introduce innovative technologies that enhance automation capabilities and operational efficiency.
