Automation Engineer, BillionToOne, Inc., Menlo Park, CA. Lead the development, optimization, and implementation of automated workflows for genomic DNA extraction, NGS library preparation, and other molecular biology techniques; Design and integrate custom Python-based solutions to enhance liquid handler and LIMS interactions; Manage and improve service tracking systems for CLIA production instruments; Collaborate with R&D and clinical teams to scale up new assays and transfer them to automated platforms; Independently design experiments and analyze data; and Provide technical advice and mentoring to junior team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Computational Biology, Automated Science, or a related field is required and 3 years’ experience as a Clinical Laboratory Automation Specialist, Assay Development Automation Engineer, Molecular Diagnostics Automation Specialist, NGS Workflow Engineer, or related.
  • Must also possess: 3 years’ experience in laboratory automation, preferably in a clinical or diagnostic setting; 3 years’ experience in independent execution of projects for high-throughput diagnostic assay scale-ups; 3 years’ experience in liquid handling platforms (e.g., Hamilton, Beckman Biomek, Agilent Bravo); 3 years’ experience in next-generation sequencing (NGS) workflows and library preparation; 3 years’ experience in conducting independent data analysis/computational tasks; 3 years’ experience with scheduling software such as Biosero Green Button Go or PAA Overlord; 3 years’ experience with programming in Python, R, and bash; 3 years’ experience with CLIA and CAP regulations; and 3 years’ experience in optimizing automated workflows for increased efficiency and yield.
  • Must successfully complete competency-based interview.
  • ALTERNATE REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Computational Biology, Automated Science, or a related field is required and 1 year of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Automation Specialist, Assay Development Automation Engineer, Molecular Diagnostics Automation Specialist, NGS Workflow Engineer, or related.
