Job Summary: Provides engineering support for the development, production, and quality of new and current manufactured vehicles within the assigned area at NNA manufacturing plants. Communicates with suppliers, manufacturing, and other Nissan affiliates to propose and implement countermeasures for quality, manufacturing, and field concerns within the assigned area. Assists manufacturing and suppliers in identifying cost-saving methods while improving quality. Contributes to building brand value and achieving enduring profitable growth.

Requirements

  • Must meet requirements for MR2 level or possess equivalent experience.
  • Complete knowledge of assigned areas.
  • High knowledge of vehicle structure and assembly methods.
  • Diverse manufacturing and vehicle design knowledge.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret dimensional layout data.
  • Knowledge of federal motor vehicle safety standards, and Nissan important A or B system.
  • Three to five years of related experience at a professional level.
  • A four-year degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology or Engineering Technology.
  • Thorough computer knowledge, such as word processing, spreadsheets, other PC applications, or mainframe applications, to resolve complex problems in day-to-day situations.
  • Occasional day or overnight travel, including international travel.
  • Extended travel may be required if assigned to new programs.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and performs trials for new models, operations, equipment, materials and quality, completing activities in assigned areas; participates in prototype builds and design confirmation trials in Japan and other designated locations; provides training for production, inspection, and maintenance employees on processes and equipment for new models.
  • Reviews product design to determine design intention and develops inspection and assembly sequences, manufacturing aids, process sheets and inspection standards; writes concern memos and requests design modifications to improve manufacturing assembly issues.
  • Develops and issues process sheets or inspection standards for assigned areas; implements revised process sheets as required by design and process changes; reviews DCC and process control data and recommends and implements countermeasures to keep process within approved specifications; develops improvements in DCC and process control system for new and current models.
  • Implements supplier changes due to improvements in quality, cost, and safety via functional trials; issues new part approvals; tracks warranty on parts in assigned areas to ensure correct chargeback is being provided by the suppliers; verifies that supplier's process is capable of producing parts meeting Nissan's quality standards.
  • Schedules and coordinates functional trials for production parts and components that have VA or cost reduction changes; communicates functional trial information with appropriate PQA areas to ensure proper evaluation is conducted prior to approval of a new part for production; conducts trials on new materials for cost reduction and quality improvement.
  • Coordinates and performs quality confirmation testing at new model trials and launch; develops sorting methods for parts inspection; conducts root cause investigations into production and quality concerns, ensuring that countermeasures adopted are effective.
  • Develops specifications and requirements for procurement and installation of new production aids, inspection equipment and systems, or manufacturing assembly equipment; analyzes process in assigned areas to determine best tool for the job; assists purchasing in determining purchase requirements for tooling, prototype, or trial parts and equipment.
  • As necessary, performs other related duties of which the above are representative.
