About The Position

The Comcast Business HQ Test and Turn Up Engineer 1, supports the test and turn‑up of Metro Ethernet 1G/10G/100G circuits for Federal Government and the largest Enterprise commercial customers, including Carriers, and OFFNet Type II services. This role deploys Metro Ethernet CPE configurations and troubleshoots complex network issues across the Comcast Business Enterprise Services network. Working within a specialized Metro Ethernet Test and Turn‑Up (TTU) engineering team in an inbound/outbound Enterprise Contact Center environment, the Engineer 1 resolves first‑contact issues and manages escalations for Comcast Business’s largest customers. Responsibilities include test and turn up of circuits, providing network engineering and escalation support to FedGov and Enterprise customers, Project Managers, OFFNet carriers, Field Service Technicians, and Cell Backhaul providers. The position requires strong network engineering, analytical skills, the ability to interpret complex network designs and data, proficiency with multiple network and system tools, and the ability to manage priorities independently in a fast‑paced environment.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of Layers 1/2/3 of the OSI Model, as well as Metro Ethernet.
  • Familiarity with service activation workflows, networking principles and testing methods.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Supports day to day operational tasks across Comcast Business's Metro Ethernet and MPLS networks.
  • Execute simple bandwidth upgrades for Wholesale clients and process disconnects and soft issues for Enterprise clients.
  • Work with off-net providers to troubleshoot connectivity issues with circuits or vendor supplied Customer Premises Equipment (CPE).
  • Remove CPE from monitoring as needed.
  • Deactivate services and issue soft disconnects for Metro Ethernet and CBH services.
  • Respond to field technician call-ins across all products and assist with adding services to existing configurations.
  • Troubleshoot basic service failures, send configurations and perform SFP tuning and ENNI support.
  • Confirming service functionality at customer demarcation, including validating MAC addresses, traffic swaps, and NNI handoffs for Wholesale clients.
  • Conduct pre-checks for optics, demarc specs and CPE settings; VLAN configuration, port status and duplex matching, auto-negotiation and traffic profiling, light level validation and SFP compatibility.
  • Use various software systems and applications to effectively troubleshoot issues and equipment relating to underlying network connectivity, as well as to identify configuration and other related issues with managed services equipment.
