About The Position

The Engagement Specialist and team will work directly in the community to meet people where they are; engage with them to understand how they can be connected to necessary resources such as housing, healthcare and/or mental health and addiction recovery treatment; and directly connect them with those resources.

Requirements

  • The Engagement Specialist will have a commitment to individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health and or substance use disorders through lived experience (preferred, but not required).
  • The Engagement Specialist will have knowledge of Philadelphia and surrounding county resources which support treatment services, food and housing insecurities, and healthcare.
  • Be eighteen (18) years of age or older
  • Hold a High school diploma or general equivalency diploma
  • Have either maintained at least 12 months of successful work or volunteer experience, or earned at least 24 credit hours at a college or post-secondary educational institution; ( within the last 3 years ) and
  • Have experience in navigating multi-system services and a working knowledge of available community resources and ability to provide group and individual psychoeducation sessions focused on self- help, advocacy , and wellness
  • Be able to safely and appropriately use a technology ( various devices ) to access resources and complete documentation.
  • Adhere to consistent and dependable means of transportation to conduct mobile outreach outside of office setting
  • Demonstrate a genuine respect for all individuals
  • Demonstrate an understanding of cultural competence and the principles of recovery

Responsibilities

  • Engage individuals in meaningful discussions focused on their immediate needs, harm reduction and self-advocacy.
  • Conduct needs assessments for those willing to participate; obtaining consents as needed.
  • Coordinate direct referrals to needed resources.
  • Assist and/or complete warm hand off with receiving service or provider.
  • Complete documentation summarizing your efforts and outcomes.
  • Engage law enforcement and emergency services as needed, and when appropriate.
  • Provide psychoeducation individual or groups sessions
  • All duties as assigned
