About The Position

The Engagement Officer position is responsible for outreach, engagement, and follow-up with donors in the workplace, new business prospects and leads generated from corporate volunteerism program.  The position develops, designs, and implements employee giving efforts, while sharing the collective impact of giving to United Way. The role promotes United Way’s donor programs through corporate LIVE United committees, and donor and community events. The position maintains relationships with local and national companies such as Costco, Microsoft, and PACCAR and explores new community partnerships through strategic outreach. The Engagement Officer serves as a relationship builder with new donors, key individuals, and volunteers in United Way’s annual fund effort.   The position provides quality, effective relationship management and involves regular one-on-one interaction with executive volunteers, Engagement Coordinators, campaign coordinators, and corporate community relations staff to achieve United Way’s philanthropic goals.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated understanding of social and racial justice and equity, with a proven commitment to apply racial and economic justice lenses in both personal and workplace contexts.
  • Lived experience and/or demonstrated professional skills working within a diverse work environment.
  • Demonstrated relationship-building skills, beginning with discovery and closing gifts.
  • Effective communication skills – listening, public speaking, and formal/informal business writing.
  • Proven ability to analyze data, create appealing programs, break new ground, and attract support from stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work comfortably with volunteers and with individual donors.
  • Excellent task, time, and project management skills, along with the ability to set goals and objectives and use appropriate analytic techniques and tools to regularly update projections.
  • Demonstrated ability to gain trust and establish a collaborative, positive working relationship with all contacts.
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion and independent judgment and/or action in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office; Enterprise and Microsoft Dynamics CRM and mass communication experience a plus.
  • The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent with experience in Fundraising, Sales, Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in fundraising or sales/marketing required.
  • Experience with face-to-face donor solicitation and knowledge of fundraising techniques, with an emphasis in customer relationship building, is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a member of the Institutional Philanthropy team, managing a portfolio of 35-50 companies and their campaign directors, focusing on growing, engaging and retaining donors. Collaborates closely with Director of Institutional philanthropy to manage engagement of new business prospects.
  • Collaborates with Associate Director, Institutional Philanthropy and Engagement Manger to support Workplace Giving efforts and strategy.
  • Co-creates fundraising strategies matching the companies’ needs using a range of United Way offerings with Engagement Coordinators and the Engagement Coordinator program.
  • Supports LIVE United Committees to ensure a positive experience with United Way and to create a commitment to giving.
  • Works with the Senior Manager, Community and Volunteer Engagement to engage companies who express an interest in United Way of King County’s corporate volunteerism menu.
  • Collaborates with other teams in Engagement and throughout the organization to share information, coordinate strategies, and support organizational initiatives.
  • Maintains thorough documentation of account activities and history in United Way’s constituent relationship management (CRM) database.
  • Represents United Way of King County in the community and with companies via public speaking, presentations, and networking activities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
