About The Position

The Energy Engineer supports the design and optimization of high-performance building systems through detailed energy modeling, financial analysis, and technical documentation. This role focuses on analyzing building envelope performance, mechanical system strategies, and renewable energy systems in support of energy code and owner driven electrification and decarbonization initiatives. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical and technical writing skills, attention to detail, and a passion for sustainable building design by providing data-driven recommendations to project teams and clients.

Requirements

  • 5 – 10 years of experience developing and analyzing building energy models for building envelope and engineered system optimization (required)
  • Proficiency using eQuest and/or IES-VE required
  • Experience with ASHRAE standards and regional energy code design and documentation requirements, utility data analysis, renewable energy systems, and system electrification/decarbonization strategies
  • Experience evaluating construction cost estimates and annual performance metrics for the development of comparative life-cycle cost analyses
  • Strong technical writing and graphic generation skills with exceptional attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferred or Engineer in Training (EIT) with intent to obtain PE
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP), High-Performance Building Design Professional (HBDP) or LEED Accredited Professional (LEED BD+C) certifications preferred with interest in obtaining relevant certifications not currently held

Responsibilities

  • Develop building energy models to optimize envelope and building system designs using eQuest (DOE-2.3) and the Integrated Environmental Solutions Virtual Environment (IES-VE)
  • Perform comparative simulations of design options to evaluate energy efficiency, operational costs, and emissions implications of various electrification and decarbonization strategies
  • Analyze historic utility consumption and cost data to establish baseline conditions and performance benchmarking
  • Support the design and evaluation of renewable energy systems
  • Perform life-cycle cost analyses using the NIST Building Life Cycle Cost (BLCC) software or similar tools
  • Interpret and apply regional energy codes and standards to project designs
  • Prepare clear, well-organized technical reports, narratives, and documentation
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, architectural, and sustainability teams throughout project development
  • Support building performance and sustainability certification efforts including Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, the WELL building standard (WELL), or International Living Future Institute (ILFI) programs.
