About The Position

TRC is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Project Manager II to support delivery of decarbonization, electrification and energy efficiency initiatives primarily serving the residential, multifamily, and small-to-medium business sectors in New York State. Eligible candidates will be a hands-on, highly skilled resource with a combination of project management, project administration, and technical experience. Knowledge in electric heat pump technologies, building science, and utility operations is strongly preferred. Mechanical or energy engineering, sustainability and/or energy efficiency expertise is highly valued. TRC seeks an individual with proven success managing a diverse set of responsibilities and with superb communication skills to grow with our company. The role will include supporting a statewide program, implementing a wide array of market-shaping initiatives, directly supporting TRC clients, and interacting with heat pump manufacturers, distributors, installation contractors, and end use customers. The position is located in New York State, or working from a TRC office in Clifton Park, New York City, Ithaca, Melville, West Seneca, or Liverpool.

Requirements

  • 4-12 years of project experience related to energy efficiency, electrification, or decarbonization
  • Bachelors preferred; Masters degree a plus but not required
  • Experience with electric heat pumps, energy efficiency, and building science considerations related to high performance buildings
  • Heat pump market understanding, including how to drive customer acceptance
  • Established analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to set priorities, collect and document project requirements, successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven staff management and development capabilities to help junior staff rapidly grow their knowledge base and applicable skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • The ability to communicate technical topics to a range of technical and non-technical audiences through presentations, trainings, case studies and other materials
  • Excellent computer skills: proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Team-oriented, hands-on, highly skilled, adaptive, and client-focused mentality.
  • Ability to coordinate with other departments to support projects and development or refinement of strategies and processes
  • Must be a self-starter and function well independently and in teams
  • Local Travel Required

Nice To Haves

  • Sustainability/energy efficiency/building science certifications a plus but not required (including but not limited to: LEED, MFBA, CEM, PHI/PHIUS, CMVP, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Manage large components of programs that aim to break down barriers to accelerated heat pump adoption - such as Clean Heat Connect, Experience Clean Heat, and the Emergency No Heat Data Pilot. Generalized activities may include:
  • Develop, and/or manage the development of, educational and support resources for the heat pump installation contractor's market regarding heat pump sizing, design, and installation best practices
  • Manage the development of initiatives that co-promote home weatherization and envelope improvements complimentary to heat pump installations
  • Act as a program liaison to multiple heat pump distributor and/or manufacturer companies - building rapport, promoting program resources, gathering market intelligence, and supporting the initiative's goals
  • Manage coordination and outreach with other entities and program implementers across New York to improve reach and impact.
  • Suggest and implement improvements to program and project management processes.
  • Attend events at heat pump distributor's locations and promote program resources
  • Manage program pipeline tracking, data collection, and program reporting to the client.
  • Support or manage electrification research projects - including demonstration pilots, case-studies, market assessments, and similar
  • Conduct literature review
  • Lead stakeholder interviews
  • Synthesize market research findings into client reports with actionable concrete recommendations
  • Fulfill contracted deliverables such as project updates, summary findings, final reports, and similar
  • Recruit and engage with demonstration sites
  • Manage project budgets effectively
  • Direct and support staff and subcontractors
  • Support or manage additional projects and programs that support building electrification and energy use reduction in the built environment
  • Engage with clients and support proposal development for new work
  • Write narratives and compile PowerPoint presentations on program performance and, if needed, present on said programs at meetings, conferences, and events.
  • Keep informed of new products and market information of interest to our clients;
  • Maintain knowledge on energy efficiency and electrification products and programs;
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
