About The Position

Coordinate vehicles and demonstration equipment for various ride and drive experiences for internal teams and potential customers. Tesla is looking for a Fleet and Operations Manager to lead dedicated test drivers, and source, maintain, and manage the various trucks, trailers, and test equipment needed to support Semi engineering, testing, customer development, and service efforts. They will be responsible for executing prescribed test procedures, reporting test results and status, and documenting findings for engineering. This person is instrumental to the success of the program, as they will support asset movement, testing support logistics, vehicle allocation, and fleet health while managing the team that operates these assets. This is a fast-moving and dynamic environment - the role requires a high level of organizational skills, effective and detailed communication, and seamless partnership across many teams.

Requirements

  • 3+ years experience with heavy duty equipment; 5+ years of professional vehicle maintenance and operation experience
  • Strong communicator with attention to detail to aid in reporting of vehicle behavior, findings, and anomalies to engineering
  • Responsive, detail oriented, and quick to act
  • Ability to work with many levels of management both internally and externally
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License with on road tractor + trailer experience
  • Adaptable to shifting priorities and deadlines
  • Able to travel as needed to various test sites

Responsibilities

  • Manage test drivers that operate trucks and run specified tests. This will include assigning shifts, coordinating time off, and collecting feedback from drivers on vehicle issues
  • Execute test plans and adjust driver, load, and procedures based on available equipment
  • Recommend, quote, purchase, and onboard various equipment ranging from full vehicles and trailers to support tools to aid in the development of Semi
  • Identify gaps in tools and equipment that will accelerate the program and/or decrease operational drag
  • Identify ballast and test loads needed for testing. Work with engineers as necessary to outfit with the right load
  • Conduct hands-on trials of loads and equipment modifications to ensure proper vehicle and equipment function
  • Manage vehicle registrations, permits, insurance, and any other documentation to ensure compliance
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained either by in-house service teams or by external vendors as needed
