About The Position

To assist the physician while performing endoscopic procedures and to provide appropriate nursing care to the endoscopy population of Brown Medicine under the direct supervision of a registered nurse (RN). Consistently applies the Brown Medicine values of patient care priority, dignity, collaboration, integrity and quality in support of the Brown Medicine mission to deliver compassionate, high-quality patient care, research excellence and outstanding physician education. Is responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the Brown Medicine Compliance Program and Code of Conduct. Consistently practices the Brown Medicine Customer Service Standards. In collaboration with the RN, provides direct patient care for patients utilizing and implementing the nursing process: assessments, planning, implementation and evaluation. Maintains endoscopic instruments and accessories in working order. Troubleshoots and recognizes malfunctions. Maintains a clean and safe patient care environment, implements and follows infection control procedures according to Brown Medicine policy and professional guidelines, while following unit policy for cleaning and disinfection of equipment. Demonstrates strong understanding and utilization of infection prevention practices. Maintains appropriate levels of supplies in each endoscopy room. Participates in quality improvement activities; assists in maintaining compliance with the accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards. Seeks guidance, direction and assistance where needed. Follows Brown Medicine Policy and Procedures at all times and is an active participant in the QI program. Utilizing supplies, equipment and resources to contains costs without compromising delivery of care. Maintains positive behaviors, approaches, attitude and commitment to interpersonal service toward patients, visitors, and/or co-workers. Demonstrates competency in performing diagnostic measures such as lab tests, EKGs, and testing related to endoscope reprocessing. Seeks guidance, direction and assistance where needed. Maintains confidentiality/privacy/security of all patients and Brown Medicine communications/documents. Gains knowledge of all equipment and supplies and is familiar with their location. Participates in staff meetings, and in-services (mandatory and regular). Maintains a clean, pleasant, and safe environment for self/other employees, patients, and visitors. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Good command of the English language, both written and verbal
  • Meets the needs of the nursing service as demanded by the schedule, particularly when overtime hours and time changes become necessary
  • Ability to work well with physicians, employees, patients, and others.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as an endoscopy technician required.
  • Minimum Education: High school education
  • Current certification in BLS
