About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Endoscopic Technician - Full Time, Days - NSG-Endoscopy - Full-Time - Monday - Friday 7:00AM - 3:00. In this role, the successful candidate The Endoscopic Technician supports the Professional/Technical team in maintaining a clean and safe environment for Perioperative patients. They focus on caring for, maintaining, decontaminating, and sterilizing Endoscopes, as well as setting up aseptic procedures and acquiring case-specific supplies for intra-operative use. Additionally, they are responsible for preparing the procedure room, ensuring all equipment is available for both advanced and routine endoscopic procedures. They provide safe, age-specific care under the direction of the Registered Nurse, strictly adhere to scope and equipment reprocessing guidelines, assist with patient transport, and perform cleaning duties essential for the smooth operation of procedure rooms and units. Furthermore, they contribute to maintaining proper par levels of advanced and standard endoscopic supplies within budget constraints.

Requirements

  • High School or GED
  • Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • 1 - 2 years Nursing Assistant/ Endoscopy Technician or equivalent experience
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), interpersonal, problem solving, critical thinking skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must have one of the following within 6 months of employment: (1) Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), (2) Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER), or (3) Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER).
  • Required Licenses: Cert Endoscope Reprocessor

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates Universal Precautions in the cleaning/decontamination/contain/disposal of blood/body fluids and appropriate use of PPE.
  • Sets-up procedure rooms in an organized and timely manner ensuring supplies and equipment needed. Performs a variety of cleaning duties necessary to the orderly functioning of the procedure rooms and unit. Maintains a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment including security of belongings. Complies with regulatory and quality policies governing safety standards and infection control. Monitors product and supply usage waste reduction.
  • Accurately and promptly reports all changes in patient condition and pertinent patient information to the registered nurse. Assists patient, family, visitors, and health care team members by answering questions, delivering messages, and giving information within the scope of practice. Ensures appropriate emergency equipment is present and operational, and responds to emergency situations as appropriate.
  • Provides direct patient care utilizing policies and procedures, patient care guidelines, physician's orders, and endoscopy skill set within scope of practice. Assists and supports team members accordingly.
  • Participates in "room turnover" cleaning/preparation and in setting up of equipment for following case. Accurately picks supplies and equipment for upcoming cases. Prepares procedure room setups that are well organized, neatly arranged and fully equipped for intra-op use.
  • Transports patients in a safe and efficient manner throughout the facility. Sanitizes transport equipment according to infection control policy.
  • Adheres to strict scope reprocessing standards based on model of endoscope, manufacturer guidelines, and regulatory safety standards. Initiates corrective action if breaks in protocol occur. Properly documents reprocessing protocol. Ensures that all scopes are secured and stored in a safe manner. Reports, trouble shoots and/or implements corrective actions related to malfunctioning Endoscopes promptly. Takes initiative in tracking inventory and requisitioning the appropriate accessories and adapters for scope reprocessing.
  • Maintains scope utility room and work areas clean, neat and free of safety hazards. Participates in the daily inspection and maintenance of the reprocessing units. Rotates stock and monitors expiration dates. Informs the appropriate staff of any out of stock items so they can be replenished in a timely manner.
  • Cooperates in adjusting work schedule in order to meet unit needs and provide patient care support. Collaborates with unit manager or charge nurse in determining priorities.
  • Provides in orientation of new employees, unit-based quality improvement measures and keeps current in Endoscopic and other related areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
