About The Position

The EMS Supervisor is a working field Paramedic on a temporary and short notice basis who also serves as the first-line clinical and operational leader for the MLHS EMS team. This dual-role position delivers immediate 911 response and inter-facility transfer care while overseeing daily operations, quality assurance, staff development, equipment readiness, and inter-agency collaboration. The Supervisor acts as the on-scene incident commander in the absence of the EMS Manager and is the primary point of contact for conflict resolution, protocol updates, and system efficiency.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Registered Paramedic in the State of Minnesota
  • Basic Life Support Certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification
  • Valid & Clear MN Driver's License
  • 3+ Years of Supervisory Experience
  • Familiar with NREMT and EMSRB regulations
  • Requires exceptional written and verbal communication with the public, patients, families, medical staff, ancillary departments, and administration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate response to 911 emergencies and up to 30-minute responses for inter-facility transfers.
  • Deliver age-appropriate patient care for all demographics in full compliance with MLHS EMS Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Respond to high-acuity calls or BLS scenes with ALS is unavailable; provide advanced care, establish Incident Command, and coordinate mult-agency ressponse.
  • Deliver complete, concise oral patient reports and legible, grammatically correct written patient care reports.
  • Exhibit positive, effective communication with peers, patients, the public, and all MLHS employees.
  • Work independently without direct supervision while performing 911 paramedic duties.
  • Maintain daily scheduling to ensure adequate coverage at both Onamia and Isle bases, fill staffing gaps and step into open shifts for emergencies.
  • Serve as a positive team member by accepting delegation duties, offering encouragement, and supporting clinical operations.
  • Inspect ambulances daily, schedule preventative maintenance and function as a liaison with vendors.
  • Ensure all staff have properly functioning equipment; lead new product evaluation, acquisition, and training.
  • Perform first-line chart review and QA/QI; escalate findings to the EMS Manager for further intervention.
  • Conduct live, on-scene QA/QI to verify high-quality field care.
  • Collaborate with EMS educators on topic development, scheduling, documentation, and record-keeping for continuing education and compliance.
  • Track staff credentialing to prevent lapses; assist with recertification requirements to avoid missed shifts.
  • Maintain operational readiness of ImageTrend, Hadtevy, FoamFrat, and other platforms to streamline documentation, education, and protocol adherence.
  • Provide first-line mediation for intra-departmental, inter-department, and external-agency conflicts.
  • Serve as the accessible point of contact for all staff concerns.
  • Establish a new mid-tier Incident Command role between frontline crews and the EMS Manager; assume on-scene command and keep the Manager informed.
  • Partner with staff, the Medical Director, and EMS Manager to create, revise or retire protocols using national best-practice guidelines.
  • Build cooperative relationships with MLSO, Onamia PD/FD, Isle PD/FD, Tribal PD/FD, Emergency Management, TZD, and regional partners to position MLHS EMS as a trusted community resource.
