About The Position

Are you an experienced emergency communications professional ready to lead a high-performing dispatch team? North Arkansas Regional Medical Center (NARMC) is seeking an EMS Communications Chief to oversee our EMS Communications Center and ensure timely, coordinated emergency response across our service area. This leadership role plays a vital part in supporting emergency medical operations, strengthening community partnerships, and maintaining the highest standards of emergency communications. Job Summary The EMS Communications Chief is responsible for the leadership, supervision, and operational oversight of the NARMC EMS Communications Center. This role ensures the efficient intake and prioritization of emergency and non-emergency calls, coordinates EMS dispatch operations, and maintains communication systems and documentation standards. As a member of the EMS administrative leadership team, the Communications Chief collaborates with operational and clinical leaders to enhance EMS performance, develop policies and procedures, and support emergency preparedness initiatives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 4 years of active emergency dispatch experience, or 2 years of emergency dispatch experience at NARMC
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Accredited Emergency Medical Dispatcher (AEMD) Certification
  • Must obtain EMD-Q Certification within 6 months of hire
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge of PROQA and AQUA dispatch systems
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety, Healthcare Administration, or related field
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience
  • EMS licensure (EMT, Advanced EMT, or Paramedic)
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office or data analytics tools
  • Additional emergency dispatch certifications such as AEMD or EMD-Q

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations of the EMS Communications Center and communications personnel.
  • Ensure continuous operational readiness of dispatch systems and communications equipment.
  • Oversee emergency and non-emergency call intake, resource prioritization, and EMS dispatch activities.
  • Provide quality assurance and oversight of EMS Telecommunications Specialists’ performance.
  • Participate in staffing, recruitment, onboarding, and evaluation of communications team members.
  • Coordinate dispatch training, orientation, and continuing education in collaboration with the EMS Clinical Quality Chief.
  • Maintain and update operational manuals, policies, and procedures for the Communications Center.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and statistical analysis related to EMS communications activities.
  • Ensure proper documentation and reporting standards for all EMS Communications Center operations.
  • Monitor and maintain communications systems, software, and related equipment.
  • Foster professional relationships with local emergency response partners and community agencies.
  • Participate in NARMC committees, preparedness initiatives, research activities, and multi-agency collaborations.
  • Assist field crews during high call volumes, staffing shortages, or disaster response situations.
  • Take rotating EMS administrative call as assigned.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of the NARMC EMS service area, dispatch protocols, and communication procedures.
  • Perform the duties of an EMS Telecommunications Specialist when operational needs require.
