The Maine Department of Labor is seeking a supervisor (Employment and Training Specialist IV) to join the leadership team for the Greater Portland and Springvale CareerCenters. If selected for this position, you will work as an assistant manager to the CareerCenter Manager and assist in supervising Bureau of Employment Services staff and services designed to assist Maine workers and employers with their employment-related needs. You will collaborate with local service providers and community organizations to make CareerCenter services easy to access and meaningful. You will monitor caseload budgets, contracts, and grants for employment and training programs; prepare federal and state reports; and train local office staff on new and revised guidelines, rules, and procedures. The position will be based in Portland, with regular travel to Springvale and, as needed, to Augusta.

Responsibilities

  • Interview, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate subordinate staff.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for the program's purpose, workflow, guidelines, rules, and regulations.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with service providers, employers, community groups, and other public and private entities to determine community needs and the best ways to serve the public.
  • Monitor and evaluate programs and services to assess effectiveness, compliance, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare written/verbal presentations to provide information to the public.
  • Deliver workforce services to job seekers and businesses in the Centers, at itinerant sites, and via virtual platforms.
