About The Position

The employment specialist will ensure the provision of quality services in the Employment Related Services department. Provide Supported Employment services to members in the Work Adjustment Training program with a diagnosed Mental Health challenge (GMH or SMI) seeking to prepare for, obtain and/or maintain employment in the community. Adhere to the philosophy of normalization and community integration as appropriate. Attend meetings on assigned caseload; communicate any concerns and or accomplishments, presenting information in a professional manner. Be aware of individuals’ physical restrictions and medical concerns. Be aware of normal safety routines and procedures as they apply to services. Ensure that all equipment utilized is properly maintained.

Requirements

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must have one-year experience in behavioral health, rehabilitation, or employment services.
  • Satisfactory work record as determined by the People First/Human Resources Department.
  • Successful completion of Copa’s training program.
  • Must have a fingerprint clearance card issued by the AZ Department of Public Safety or be eligible to receive one within eight (8) weeks of hire (If a Good Cause Exception is required, this must be taken care of BEFORE hire date.)
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening.
  • TB Test clearance required at the time of hire and annually.
  • Must be an authorized driver, which includes a valid AZ Driver’s License, state minimum insurance coverage and the ability to meet and maintain Copa Health’s acceptable driving requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the maintenance of departmental operations to achieve compliance with contract requirements, accreditation, licensing and monitoring standards, agency procedures, Federal/State/Local regulations and all other licensing/regulatory agencies as directed.
  • Adhere to current training requirements and applicable accreditation and licensing/regulatory standards and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Health Information Technology for Economic Clinical Health (HITECH ) requirements.
  • Coordinate information and contribute to the successful resolution of challenges.
  • Communicate with integrity and honesty, clearly and concisely, and in a respectful manner to all team members.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of written, verbal and electronic communications pertaining to members, staff, families of consumers and agency operations.
  • Demonstrate and maintain professional, respectful, productive working relationships with all agency departments, staff, board members, funding sources, individuals receiving services, families utilizing or enquiring about services, funding sources and the community.
  • Engage members and establish trusting, collaborative relationships directed toward the goal of competitive employment in community job settings. Jobs that are “not” designated for people with disabilities.
  • Assist members in obtaining individualized information about how entitlements (e.g., SSI, SSDI, Medicaid, EBT, etc.) will be affected by employment so members can make informed decisions about employment opportunities. This includes utilizing the DB101 website and interpreting session results accurately. Refer members to Ticket to Work if they choose.
  • Encourage and assist members with completing a Career Interest Profile via ONet to evaluate areas of interest.
  • Complete a Vocational Profile to obtain member’s past work history and current employment goals.
  • Complete a First Employer Contact with member within 30 days of Vocational Profile.
