About The Position

In this role, you will serve as a strategic legal advisor on employment matters, supporting HR and leadership across multiple jurisdictions. You will provide practical guidance on employee relations, compliance, and workforce management while helping to shape company policies and practices. The position involves managing sensitive workplace issues, overseeing investigations and disputes, and advising on executive employment agreements and talent acquisition contracts. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with federal, state, and international labor laws, while also contributing to broader corporate legal initiatives. This role offers a dynamic environment where your expertise directly influences the employee experience and mitigates legal risk across the organization.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) and admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 6–10 years of employment law experience, including both law firm and in-house roles preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. federal and multi-state employment laws; familiarity with Canadian (Ontario) employment law is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience handling employee relations, workplace investigations, administrative agency charges, and employment litigation.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide practical, business-oriented advice.
  • Ability to flex into general corporate and contract review work when needed.

  • Experience in architecture, engineering, construction, or professional services industries is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice on employment law, labor regulations, and human rights compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Draft, review, and update company policies, handbooks, and employment agreements to ensure adherence to current laws.
  • Partner with HR to manage employee relations issues, including performance management, accommodations, discipline, terminations, and workplace investigations.
  • Oversee responses to administrative charges and coordinate employment litigation with outside counsel as needed.
  • Draft and negotiate executive employment agreements, severance packages, and restrictive covenants.
  • Advise on privacy, data protection, independent contractor agreements, and compliance with wage and benefits regulations.
  • Support broader legal matters, including contract review, corporate compliance initiatives, and project-related agreements.
