About the Role: Anthropic is seeking an exceptional Employment Counsel who will closely partner with our People team, business and technical stakeholders to build and manage employment programs that enable high performers to achieve their best work. The ideal candidate pairs law firm and in-house experience, with the ability to develop scalable processes and collaborate effectively across technical and business teams in a fast-paced and fun environment.

Requirements

  • A JD from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California or New York preferred)
  • At least 8 years of practicing employment law with a combination of experience at a global focused law firm and in-house
  • Humility, thoughtfulness, and can exercise sound judgment and operate at the highest level of integrity
  • The ability to be strategic, flexible, resourceful and solution-oriented
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, and are able to prioritize and execute on tasks
  • Exceptional analytical and writing and communication skills. You understand how to succinctly and effectively communicate legal issues to non-lawyers
  • Curiosity, openness, and willingness to change your mind
  • Comfort in a fast-paced, high-volume, ambiguous environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a tech company or other fast-paced environment
  • Experience advising on international employment legal matters

Responsibilities

  • Advise the People team and managers on a wide range of U.S. legal matters, including compensation, benefits, performance management, leaves of absences, and contingent worker issues
  • Implement and manage compliant employment programs to create a culture of high performance, and alignment to Anthropic’s values and People philosophy
  • Craft clear and comprehensive written guidance, policies, and communications that effectively translate complex employment law concepts into actionable frameworks for technical and business stakeholders across the organization
  • Leverage your experience to proactively identify and mitigate employment legal risks
  • Liaise and manage relationships with outside counsel, as necessary
  • Stay up to date on relevant employment laws, regulations, industry trends, and disseminate to key stakeholders these developments and their implications to Anthropic’s mission and business
