Summary DLA Piper seeks an employment associate for its Short Hills, NJ and/or New York, NY office.

Requirements

  • JD
  • Admitted to practice in New Jersey and/or New York
  • 3-6 years of experience in labor and employment, including litigation, advice and counsel, and transactional work.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal employment laws, including wage and hour laws, discrimination laws, and practice before state and federal court and administrative agencies.
  • Experience in the defense of complex employment litigation, provision of day-to-day employment advice and counsel to HR professionals and in-house counsel.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills; able to work multi-task and work independently.

Responsibilities

  • The Associate will be handling litigation management, legal research, legal drafting, and other litigation-related tasks for complex employment litigation, including but not limited to matters involving alleged failure to pay wages and/or bonuses, off-the-clock work, misclassification, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, breach of contract, and wrongful termination.
  • The Associate will also be handling employment law advice and counsel matters; drafting and negotiation of employment, termination/severance, and related agreements; and may also conduct employment due diligence and advise on employment aspects of corporate transactions.
  • Other advice subjects include restrictive covenants, employee mobility, compensation practices, commission plans, employee policies/training.
  • leave of absence/accommodations (FMLA, ADA) issues.
