About The Position

Responsible for ensuring human resources and employee practices are consistent and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and best practices. This includes administering complex processes such as conducting investigations, responding to complaints, issuing corrective actions, conflict resolution, leave management, and Equal Employment Opportunity. Major Job Functions The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time: Serves as the initial contact for employees and leadership to assist with problem resolution or policy interpretation Coordinates the initial investigation of EEOC charges and assists with the preparation of the position statement and the response to any charges Coordinates and conducts departmental evaluations/investigations for the purpose of maintaining policy compliance and establishing corrective action plans to minimize employment liabilities Assist with the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) interventions and conflict resolution processes Human Resources representative on the Threat Assessment Team (TAT) for organizational safety preparedness for staff and departments/units Coordinates and facilitates the various steps of the Grievance Procedure, consulting, and counseling with the employee and/or management as needed Assist with responses to the North Carolina Department of Commerce unemployment claims and appeals Serves as initial contact with local law enforcement agencies for legal inquiries into employee status in relation to background inquiries or legal charges Assist with diversity awareness and participate in leadership/management training classes Conducts follow-up and exit interviews and advises management of areas needing attention Assist with FMLA inquiries and leave of absence processing Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in human resources, business administration, or other related field required
  • 5 years of experience in a related area such as: human resources, compensation, recruitment, and/or equal opportunity compliance required
  • 5 years of experience resolving complex employee relations issues required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies
  • Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of the organization’s hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and the administrative practices related to those factors
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws
  • Ability to move throughout the Health System
  • Flexible in use of time and physical space
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 15 pounds from one level to another
  • Auditory and visual acuity to accurately perform job functions
