The Employee Health Nurse provides initial nursing assessment and clinical support for employee health services, with a focus on occupational health screenings, work related injuries and exposures, immunization programs, workplace accommodations, and regulatory compliance. This role supports onboarding, accommodation coordination, and injury/exposure follow up in accordance with established clinical guidelines and organizational protocols. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required.
  • Current license in the State of Illinois as a Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required; Employee Health, Occupational Health, or related experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with employees, leadership, Human Resources, providers, and internal partners.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills to effectively evaluate, triage, and determine appropriate actions for a wide range of employee health situations.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail and prioritize work in a fast paced or high volume environment.
  • Manual dexterity required for the preparation and administration of injections.
  • Phlebotomy skills required for blood collection related to pre-employment screening and occupational exposure follow up.
  • Physical ability to lift, push, or pull up to 30 pounds and to reach overhead, squat, and bend as needed to stock supplies and support employee health interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Performs nursing assessments related to post offer employment health evaluations, work related injuries, occupational exposures, and accommodation requests, and determines appropriate next steps in accordance with established protocols.
  • Processes post-offer employment health requirements, including review of laboratory results, drug screens, immunization history, TB testing, respiratory fit testing, and required documentation.
  • Administers and supports the Respiratory Protection Program, including employee fit testing and required education.
  • Administers onboarding and seasonal immunizations, including influenza vaccines.
  • Performs phlebotomy for pre-employment testing and occupational exposure follow up.
  • Maintains and protects confidential employee health records for all employees according to regulatory requirements.
  • Tracks TB screening compliance and follows up with employees and leadership as appropriate.
  • Supports workplace accommodation processes for employees with work related and personal illnesses or injuries, including reviewing medical documentation, clarifying functional limitations, and coordinating with Human Resources, leadership, and other stakeholders.
  • Supports management of work related injuries and exposures by documenting incidents and coordinating required follow up in accordance with OSHA and organizational protocols.
  • Collaborates with Infection Control to monitor employee infections that may affect the health of other employees or patients.
  • Assists with the development of policies and procedures for Employee Health Services.
  • Manages clinic supplies, equipment, medications, etc.
  • Understands and complies with all regulatory, procedural, policy and licensing requirements
  • Consistently demonstrates accountability.
  • Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan Abilitylab.
