This is a non-unionized position that falls within the Org Design and Client Relations Division in the Human Resources Business Unit. In this role, you’ll provide specialized advice and training on labour relations matters, participate in collective bargaining, and support the dispute resolution process.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Labour or Industrial Relations, Law, Human Resources Management, or a related field
  • Minimum 4–6 years of experience in labour and employee relations, with experience in the broader public sector and/or heavily unionized environments
  • Strong knowledge of labour relations and employment legislation (e.g., Ontario Human Rights Code, Ontario Labour Relations Act, Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act)
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data sets, identify trends, and present findings through reports and dashboards
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive matters with discretion
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, managing expectations across unionized and management groups
  • Strong judgement, communication and influencing skills to provide strategic advice and achieve desired outcomes
  • High level of attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications such as Certified Human Resources Practitioner (CHRP) designation, Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL), or equivalent are an asset
  • Project management expertise to implement employee and labour relations programs/processes and work with cross functional teams is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Providing expert guidance on collective agreement administration, grievance management, performance management, discipline, and compliance with applicable employment legislation and organizational policies
  • Developing and delivering training on legislative and collective bargaining updates
  • Fostering productive relationships between management, employees, and stakeholders
  • Participating in collective bargaining, preparation, assisting in proposal development meetings, conducting research and analysis, maintaining records, and developing strategy
  • Supporting dispute resolution processes, such as mediation and arbitration
  • Maintaining records of employee and labour relations matters, preparing reports, memos etc.
  • Making sound and data-based insights and recommendations through tracking and analyzing trends
  • Act as a trusted advisor to HR partners and leaders coaching, counseling and guiding them on people matters
  • Provide interpretation of collective agreement provisions
  • Support the grievance and arbitration process, from intake to resolution
  • Prepare reports, guidelines and provide analyses of workplace trends
  • Coordinate and attend meetings with various stakeholders in support of the dispute resolution processes
  • Partner with leaders to proactively monitor and identify emerging labour relations risks, trends, and legislative changes
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of labour relations practices, frameworks, and training
