Hood Community College's Human Resources and Payroll team is dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where every employee can thrive. We provide a full array of Human Resources services and programs including Benefits, Employee and Labor Relations, Organizational Development, Payroll, Recruitment, and Total Compensation. Job Summary Performs a variety of professional and technical duties in support of the College's employee relations, labor relations, and performance management functions. Conducts analysis, provides recommendations and assists with the administration of employee and labor contracts. Conducts internal investigations into alleged violations of college policies and procedures and makes appropriate recommendations for resolution and/or disciplinary action based on findings. Acts as a resource for staff and provides consultation and guidance to management and associates on a variety of issues, including performance management, corrective action, policy and investigations. Ensures a fair and consistent approach and response aligned with College practices, policies, procedures and legal requirements.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in human resources, public administration or a related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in Human Resources
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience working with diverse backgrounds; demonstrated commitment to promoting access and diversity

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in employee and/or labor relations
  • Experience with a broad range of human resources programs, procedures and plans
  • Experience working in a unionized environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, problem-solves, and provides counsel to managers and employees on a variety of sensitive human resources and organizational issues, with a particular focus on employee relations, labor relations and performance management; facilitates and collaborates on a broad range of HR issues with a variety of individuals and groups, including college executives and managers, employees, union representatives, and other internal or external stakeholders; assists in building consensus and resolving conflict.
  • Acts as the initial Human Resources contact for managers and employees on employee and labor relations issues, including contract administration. Evaluates various situations as they arise by interviewing witnesses, reviewing policies/relevant documentation, and contracts, and escalates issues as appropriate.
  • Confers with and coaches managers on performance management to improve the efficient and effective operation of campus programs, employee satisfaction, and/or the productive interactions and teamwork of staff.
  • Provides technical and administrative support in the preparation, implementation and maintenance of collective bargaining agreements, settlements, grievance resolutions and other administrative proceedings.
  • Plans and conducts internal investigations into alleged violations of college policies and procedures and makes appropriate recommendations for resolution and/or disciplinary action based on findings; drafts disciplinary documents.
  • Assists in the development and delivery of training on a variety of topics, including, but not limited to, contract interpretation, employee relations, labor relations, HR policies and performance management.
  • Participates in and supports negotiations as assigned.
  • Attends training sessions and participates in professional training opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
