About The Position

Position Summary:  Responsible for performing high-quality EMG studies on all patients as ordered by physicians for expedited and accurate interpretation, generating preliminary report immediately upon completion.

Responsibilities

  • Performs high quality EMG studies for expedited and accurate interpretation, generating preliminary report immediately upon completion    1. Greets patient and explains procedure 2. Prepares patient properly per laboratory standard of practice 3. Monitors patient for safety and records any reactions throughout exam 4. Recognizes and corrects technical problems, e.g. artifact 5. Provides appropriate aftercare
  • Operates a variety of sophisticated medical equipment including EMG machine, computers, printers and recording devices
  • Coordinates scheduling of studies with Dent secretarial staff and outside physician group referral sources to meet the needs of the patient and physician. 
  • Maintains proper and appropriate records, logs and statistics of all patients seen in lab.  Develops and maintains monthly QA reports and patient statistics for lab.  Maintains confidentiality of patient information
  • Maintains physical laboratory facility including ordering and replenishing laboratory supplies, equipment and linen.  Ensures proper function and maintenance of EMG equipment by consulting with service technicians under contract with Dent    Maintains acceptable working conditions, assisting in development and implementation of policies and procedures which promote a safe, effective, quality driven work environment.   Consults with Medical Director at Dent in matters of departmental and equipment issues with a high degree of planning and initiative
  • Develops and maintains case studies as requested, maintaining teaching files and lecture presentation materials and under direction of Medical Director, assists in the education and training of neurology residents and fellows, and other Dent staff in performance of EMG studies.   Participates in clinical research studies in cooperation with outside referring physicians and maintaining valid data for Dent 
  • Represents the Dent by displaying a respectful and caring manner with patients and their families
  • Interacts calmly, respectfully and in a friendly manner with other representatives of services at the Dent.   Assists in clerical duties as needed, functioning as a member of the health care team
  • Independently problem solves and utilizes resources to obtain patient information when patient is unable to communicate, referring patients to proper clinical resources for health care questions and to proper personnel for Dent policies such as billing and or financial support
  • Maintains competence through continuing education and in-service training
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested
