About The Position

The Emerging Arts Professional program is a season long paid opportunity for on-the-job learning in arts administration. Participants work within their area of focus to support the growth and programmatic activity of Texas Performing Arts while developing the job skills, understanding of the field, and network connections necessary to begin or advance a professional career in the arts and entertainment industry. Emerging Arts Professionals receive an annual salary and UT Austin’s benefits package. The Emerging Arts Professional, Digital Marketing supports the day‑to‑day digital needs of Texas Performing Arts, with an emphasis on social media creation, scheduling, and audience engagement. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about the performing arts, enjoys creative storytelling, and is excited to help grow TPA’s online presence while learning and developing as a digital marketer. The role works closely with the marketing, communications, and design teams.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years work experience in arts administration, performing arts production, non-profit management, community engagement, or education. Student roles can count toward this requirement.
  • Some experience managing social media for an organization, club, project, internship, or personal creative platform.
  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences.
  • Basic photography and short‑form video skills (smartphone acceptable).
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for performances, content capture, or events.
  • Demonstrated intent to pursue a career in professional arts administration or production.
  • Demonstrated positive attitude, flexibility with working assignments and a willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Demonstrated competencies in: Teamwork Effective communication (written and spoken) Accuracy and attention to detail Initiative Decision making and critical thinking Problem solving

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work experience working in a performing arts organization.
  • Familiarity with editing tools such as Canva, iMovie, or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Familiarity with Texas Performing Arts and UT Austin venues and programs

Responsibilities

  • Assist with creating, scheduling, and posting content across TPA’s social media channels.
  • Draft captions, gather assets, and help maintain a consistent voice and look across platforms.
  • Capture content at select performances and events, including photos, short videos, and behind‑the‑scenes moments.
  • Monitor comments and messages and help maintain a positive, responsive online presence.
  • Support digital advertising campaigns by preparing assets and tracking basic performance metrics.
  • Compile social media into simple reports and share insights with the team.
  • Collaborate with the design team to request graphics and assets needed for campaigns.
  • Bring fresh ideas to the table for social content and digital moments that spark excitement, deepen audience engagement, and showcase the unique personality of TPA.
  • Participate in weekly marketing meetings and contribute ideas for content, campaigns, and audience engagement.
  • Stay up to date on social media trends, best practices, and emerging features.
  • Participate in Emerging Arts Professional educational programming including monthly meetings, developmental projects and networking events.
  • Serve as a member of the TPA All-Staff Committee
  • Attend TPA performances and activities.
  • Complete a capstone project or experience
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.
