About The Position

Emergency Veterinary Technician – Second Shift Magnolia Veterinary Hospital is seeking a licensed veterinary technician to join our Emergency team on second shift. We are looking for a technician who values steady clinical standards, clear communication, and strong collaboration with referring veterinarians. Our ER service exists to support—not replace—primary care. Every case we see is handled with the understanding that continuity and follow-up matter. About The Role Second shift ER technicians are central to our emergency service. You will work alongside experienced emergency clinicians and a skilled nursing team to triage, stabilize, monitor, and support hospitalized patients. Your focus will be high-quality nursing care, precise assessments, and timely communication. Shift: Second Shift (afternoon/evening hours) Department: Emergency

Requirements

  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician (LVT, CVT, or RVT) in good standing
  • Minimum 1–2 years clinical experience; ER experience strongly preferred
  • Strong medical math and pharmacology knowledge
  • Confidence with anesthesia monitoring and critical care nursing
  • Composed decision-making in fast-paced situations
  • Clear communicator and collaborative team member

Responsibilities

  • Emergency Triage and Stabilization
  • Perform triage assessments using established urgency protocols
  • Obtain and document complete patient histories
  • Accurately assess and record TPR, blood pressure, pain scores, and perfusion parameters
  • Assist with rapid stabilization and emergency procedures
  • Advanced Nursing and Monitoring
  • Place IV catheters and perform venipuncture efficiently
  • Calculate and administer medications and fluid therapy, including shock doses
  • Monitor continuous fluids and assess for response or overload
  • Execute, monitor, and recover sedation and anesthesia
  • Monitor ECG, SpO₂, EtCO₂, NIBP, and temperature during procedures
  • Initiate CPR and perform Basic Life Support as indicated
  • Diagnostics
  • Obtain high-quality radiographs
  • Perform in-house laboratory testing (CBC, chemistry, lactate, urinalysis, cytology)
  • Prepare and submit reference laboratory samples
  • Hospitalized and Critical Care
  • Assist with ICU-level patients and recognize early decompensation
  • Assist with blood product administration
  • Maintain detailed treatment sheets and communication logs
  • Provide thorough shift handoffs to ensure continuity of care
  • Client and Referral Communication
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with clients during emergencies
  • Prepare complete medical records for referring veterinarians
  • Support timely case updates to ensure seamless continuity of care
