About The Position

The Cy-Fair Fire Department (CFFD) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Emergency Vehicle Technician I. The Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) will perform inspections, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on fire and EMS vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and mission-ready operations. The Emergency Vehicle Technician I is classified as an hourly, non-exempt position. Pay Rate: $30.75 per hour + $0.20 per year for longevity. Annual Education Pay: Associate’s Degree: $ 0.58 Bachelor’s Degree: $ 0.87 Master’s/Doctorate Degree: $ 1.15 Schedule: 40-hour work week, Monday–Friday, with potential to remain on duty beyond scheduled hours, nights, and weekends may be expected. Annual Leave: 80 Hours Vacation /80 Hours Sick / 80 Hours Holiday Accrual increases every 2 or 3 years, depending on length of service Retirement: TCDRS requires a 7% employee contribution with a 14% employer contribution. The 457(b) plan is a voluntary retirement account. The department contribution match of up to 3%. Insurance: Medical Coverage Currently through Blue Cross Blue Shield. Under the PPO HSA $5,000 plan: The Department covers 100% of the employee premium and 90% of the family premium. The Department also makes a quarterly contribution toward the HSA account. Dental and Vision Currently through Guardian The Department covers 90% of the employee premium and 70% of the family premium. Short- and Long-Term Disability Currently through Guardian The Department pays 100% of the premium. Life Insurance - $50,000 policy fully paid by the Department. Supplemental insurance: The Department partners with Aflac for supplemental insurance. This is available for purchase by the employee.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Requires 18 months of vocational education/training in automotive maintenance or repair (e.g. NIASE)
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to obtain CDL within one year of employment
  • Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association or ability to obtain within 30 days
  • Ability to lift and/or carry approximately 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to meet physical demands necessary to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation

Nice To Haves

  • One year of mechanical repair and maintenance work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • ASE certifications, EVT certifications, or additional automotive maintenance experience
  • Knowledge of occupational safety and health policies and procedures related to vehicle maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge of automotive parts inventory and stock management
  • Knowledge of basic computer hardware and software usage (e.g., fleet management systems)
  • Knowledge of small tools such as chainsaws and generators
  • Skill in using computer programs and databases to track mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance requirements
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong customer service skills, including oral and written communication
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with Department Standard Operating Guidelines, including Bulletins, Memos, Safety guidelines, Personnel Handbook and Chief’s Orders.
  • Ensures shop cleanliness on a regular basis
  • Makes repairs and performs routine and preventive maintenance on all Department vehicles and equipment, both in-shop and on-site
  • Performs road tests on vehicles ensure proper operation
  • Uses computer to document repair work and maintenance activities basis
  • Monitors communications and responds to off-site requests for assistance
  • Monitors and enforces safety-related procedures in the shop and at maintenance locations
  • Transports equipment and vehicles between stations, the shop, and outside vendors
  • Clean and maintain equipment and shop tools
  • Perform housekeeping duties as related to the maintenance facility
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, including repairing garage doors and assisting the Facilities Division with mechanical repairs
