Job Overview The Mental Health Screener Screener responds to mental and behavioral health crisis calls in the community, primarily in coordination with law enforcement at municipal locations. This role provides referrals and linkage to support individuals in maintaining care, completes transport authorizations when needed, and conducts follow-up with police to ensure effective crisis management. The Emergency Screener collaborates with law enforcement, agency colleagues, and participates in trainings and meetings to enhance community safety and service delivery. As an integrated health organization, Acenda values the use of evidence-based practice or EBP's. Program Info The New Jersey ARRIVE (Alternative Responses to Reduce Instances of Violence & Escalation) Together program aims to improve mental health crisis response by pairing crisis-trained police officers with mental health specialists to respond to 9-1-1 calls for mental and behavioral health crisis to provide immediate support and resources. As an ARRIVE screener, you will be stationed in either a Gloucester or Cape May County police stations and will work collaboratively with law enforcement.

Requirements

  • Must be a New Jersey State Certified Screener with a valid screener number
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or human services field with three years mental health experience post degree, one of which is in a crisis setting or Master's degree in psychology, social work, or human services field with one year in a psychiatric setting post degree
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license, use of an insured vehicle and an acceptable driving record.
  • Local travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Stationed in the community at Law Enforcement Municipalities with the primary responsibility to respond to crisis calls referred to by police in scheduled areas.
  • Performs close follow-up with Law Enforcement to respond to mental and behavioral health crisis calls in the community
  • Provides referral and linkage to support individuals in maintaining care in the community
  • Completes authorization for transport form (when appropriate)
  • Works Collaboratively with Law Enforcement, co-workers and agency colleagues to effectively communicate and problem-solve
  • Participate in additional trainings, meetings, events set up by both police departments and Prosecutor's Office
