Requirements

• ABEM certification
• BLS, ACLS
• DEA
• Any state medical license

Responsibilities

• Emergent intake, patient assessment, patient history, physical examinations, ordering diagnostic and therapeutic tests/studies, emergent resuscitation, and management of difficult airways.
• Interprets ECGs and selected radiographic tests; performs invasive procedures for which incumbent is credentialed.
• Initiates consults as well as referrals after discharge from the Emergency Department,
• Prescribes medications/supplies in accordance with VA policy and VA formulary and State regulations.
• Coordinate patient treatment plans (involve Primary Care and specialists as appropriate).
• Order appropriate diagnostic tests as necessary to complete the evaluation.
• Admit patients to the hospital or discharge them from the ED with appropriate follow-up.
• Perform medication reconciliation with all ED discharged patients.
• Participate in Quality Assurance, chart reviews, and support applicable ED performance measures.
• Coordinate patient care with consultants as deemed appropriate.
• Provide physician oversight to nursing staff and other mid-level staff members.
• Participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.
• Attend physician staff meetings
