About The Position

This is an ongoing PRN (as needed) coverage opportunity for an Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant, with a start date of July 1st. The position is needed to cover staffing while a long-term permanent search is conducted. The practice setting is a 21-bed Emergency Department with an average of 20-25 patients per day (PPD), an annual volume of 32,000, and a daily volume of 90-100. The coverage model includes 2 Physicians with 2 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) splitting coverage. APP shifts are typically 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM or 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM, and specific coverage needs vary monthly. The patient population includes all ages. The Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system used is Meditech 6.1. Credentialing for this position is estimated to take 2 weeks.

Requirements

  • Active North Carolina licensure
  • Board certification
  • AHA BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications
  • Minimum 1-year Emergency Medicine experience or equivalent
  • Strong clinical knowledge and assessment skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients
  • Proficiency in performing physical examinations and procedures relevant to their specialty
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to diagnose and manage complex medical conditions
  • Time management skills to efficiently manage a patient workload
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a healthcare team
  • Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree from an accredited program
  • Active and unencumbered physician assistant (PA) license in North Carolina
  • National certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Prescribe medications and manage chronic conditions
  • Provide patient education and counseling on healthy lifestyle choices
  • Perform procedures as permitted by state regulations and APP specialty
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly
