About The Position

Northwest Mississippi Community College is seeking a knowledgeable and committed EMT-Basic Instructor to teach in our evening program. This position is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, guiding hands-on skills development, and supporting students as they prepare for entry-level certification and practice. The instructor will uphold the professional, academic, and safety standards of the School of Health Sciences and the Mississippi State Department of Health, Bureau of EMS. QUALIFICATION: Current National Registry certification as an Advanced EMT or higher (Paramedic preferred). Current Mississippi EMS license at the Advanced EMT level or above. At least two years of field experience as a licensed EMS provider. Current CPR (AHA BLS) certification; ACLS and PALS preferred. Strong communication skills and the ability to teach and evaluate EMS skills effectively. PREFERRED QUALIFICATION: Current Paramedic National Registry and Mississippi licensure. Previous teaching, training, or preceptor experience in EMS or related clinical settings. Experience with Canvas or similar learning management platforms. WORK SCHEDULE: Evening classes typically meet two nights per week. Additional time may be required for skills evaluations, meetings, and program coordination.

Requirements

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience using technology, Microsoft Office Suite, presentation software, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and courteously with students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate oral and written communication skills to interact with a wide range of diverse individuals.
  • Flexible schedule is required to meet department needs, as some evenings and extended hours may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide evening instruction in both classroom and skills-lab settings for the EMT-Basic curriculum.
  • Assess student performance through written examinations, skills check-offs, and competency evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with all state, institutional, and accreditation requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of grades, attendance, and student progression.
  • Foster a respectful and supportive learning environment that reflects NWCC’s expectations for professionalism and student success.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director regarding curriculum delivery, instructional needs, and student issues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Emergency Medical Technology (EMT).
