About The Position

Under the guidance of the Director of Emergency Management, the Business Continuity Specialist will provide technical and specialized support for the five mission areas of emergency management – prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery – for the University of Kansas Medical Center. Support organizational continuity of operations (COOP) planning relating to the organization’s assets, data, and operations. This position will support innovative strategies and the ability to cultivate cross-function relationships to achieve strategic objectives.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in emergency management, business continuity, disaster recovery, crisis management or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional certifications such as: Certified Emergency Management CBCP (Certified Business Continuity Professional) CFCP (Certified Functional Continuity Professional) or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Public Health or related field. Experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
  • FEMA 300 & 400
  • Project management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Administrative Planning Support Emergency Management and Business Continuity planning.
  • Work with business teams to conduct business impact analyses (BIA) and risk assessments, identify critical services, define recovery objectives, and map critical dependencies.
  • Author after action reports from incidents and exercises and complete or support necessary improvement plan actions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal business units to understand their specific emergency management, business continuity and contingency needs.
  • Act as a liaison between technical teams and business units.
  • Coordinate tabletop exercises and simulations to test and improve resiliency capabilities.
  • Update plans based on lessons learned.
  • Maintain competency in professional field, such as knowledge of best practices and situational awareness including federal, state, and local regulations and issues impacting campus safety.
  • Proactively monitors the environment for potential threats to the organization and communicate with necessary stakeholders, provides support and expertise during emergency response and recovery initiatives.
  • Support testing/training/real life incidents including but not limited to emergency situations and incident management team activations.
  • Maintain disaster equipment and supplies and ensure they are readily deployable in the event of an emergency.
