About The Position

As an Emergency Department Technician in the Adult Emergency Department at Boston Medical Center (BMC), you will be a key member of the healthcare team. Under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse (RN), and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, you will provide direct clinical and support services. Utilizing a patient-centered care model and supported by a strong nursing organization, you will participate in delivering care to patients and their families. You will also collaborate with all healthcare team members to provide various support services to meet patient, family, and staff needs. BMC's Emergency Department is the largest and busiest provider of trauma and emergency services in New England, serving over 130,000 patients annually with 24/7 cutting-edge, comprehensive, team-based emergency medical care. The team includes emergency medicine attending physicians and residents, advanced practice providers, emergency nurses, mental health specialists, social workers, and case managers, alongside a specialized pediatric emergency department. Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English with staff and patients
  • A current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from either the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Ability to pass clinical competency testing
  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
  • Basic math and computer proficiency
  • At least one year of experience of direct patient care
  • Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation OR Completed an approved Emergency Medical Technician training program OR Completed an approved Certified Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, or Medical Assistant training program OR Worked for at least one year as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, or Medical Assistant

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the ED and their families. Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.
  • Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the ED.
  • Contribute to the efficient operation of the ED, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.
