About The Position

As the largest and busiest provider of trauma and emergency services in New England, Boston Medical Center (BMC) is a national model of excellence in emergency medicine. Its Emergency Department (ED) serves over 130,000 patients annually, offering 24/7 cutting-edge, comprehensive, team-based emergency medical care. The team comprises experienced emergency medicine attending physicians and residents, advanced practice providers, emergency nurses, mental health specialists, social workers, and case managers, alongside a specialized pediatric emergency department staffed by board-certified pediatricians and pediatric emergency medicine specialists. As an Emergency Department Technician, you will be a key member of this healthcare team, working under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse (RN) and adhering to hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice. In this role, you will provide direct clinical and support services, participating in patient care delivery using a patient-centered model, and collaborating with all healthcare team members to meet the needs of patients, families, and staff.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED certificate
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English with staff and patients
  • A current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from either the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Ability to pass clinical competency testing
  • Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
  • Basic math and computer proficiency
  • At least one year of experience of direct patient care
  • One of the following: Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation; Completed an approved Emergency Medical Technician training program; Completed an approved Certified Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, or Medical Assistant training program; Worked for at least one year as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, or Medical Assistant

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the ED and their families. Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.
  • Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the ED.
  • Contribute to the efficient operation of the ED, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.
