About The Position

Glens Falls Hospital is seeking an Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) to join their team. This role is ideal for EMTs, nursing assistants, and healthcare students, as well as experienced healthcare workers looking for a dynamic change in a Magnet® recognized, non-profit organization. The ED Tech will work under the direction of a Registered Nurse, providing first-level patient care and managing emergency equipment and supplies. The position is crucial for maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff, and for optimizing resource utilization to deliver exceptional patient care. This opportunity offers invaluable hands-on experience in emergency care, on-the-job training, and a pathway into the nurse residency program for those interested in becoming a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department. Multiple shifts (Days, Evenings, Nights) are available with significant shift differentials.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required; can be obtained after hire
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
  • Customer service skills consistent with organizational mission and values
  • Ability to follow directions; perform routine responsibilities in a flexible, self-directed manner
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, such as, instructions, policies, procedures
  • Ability to use math skills to compute/interpret figures related to patient care
  • De-escalation training annually after hire

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree or higher preferred
  • Healthcare specific technical diploma highly preferred
  • Hands on, patient facing experience in a hospital setting strongly preferred
  • Experience equivalent to 100 hours of patient care experience strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy and physiology preferred
  • Certified Nurse Assistant certification preferred
  • EMT highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living as required to promote hygiene, comfort, nutritional intake, and safety as indicated in plan of care
  • Assist patients with mobility through such activities as ambulating, use of assistive devices, positioning, transferring, ROM, and others as indicated by individual plan of care
  • Accurately obtains and documents vital signs and measurements related to patient care
  • Performing specimen collection and obtaining EKG
  • Assist and support routine unit-specific procedures and treatments related to patient care
  • Support all aspects of ensuring patient safety including detailed observation and reporting
  • Serve as a communicator with patients, family members, and staff to optimize quality care
