About The Position

This position is located at Wilmington Hospital, a fully modernized facility and a landmark since 1890, providing high-quality health care in Wilmington. The Wilmington Emergency Department houses a Level III Trauma Center and is a participating trauma hospital in the Delaware Trauma System. The primary function of the Emergency Care Tech is to perform hygiene/comfort measures and selected nursing and phlebotomy procedures for patients under the supervision and direction of a professional nurse. This includes acquiring vital signs and performing EKGs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, and the ability to obtain information, identify patient needs, and provide care as required. Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware, is a 1,007-bed, 1.3-million-square-foot modern facility offering a level of care typically found in large-scale teaching hospitals. It features Delaware's only Level-I Trauma center, verified by the American College of Surgeons, and is nationally recognized by U.S. News & World Report.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Previous work experience or completion of Patient Care Technician and/or Phlebotomist programs.
  • Demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult & geriatric patients.
  • Demonstrate the ability to obtain information and identify patient needs and provide care as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Performs assigned nursing procedures that pertain to the comfort and well-being of patients.
  • Responds to patient crisis situations and initiates interventions within the scope of responsibilities and notifies RN.
  • Performs venipuncture and finger sticks on patients, following all standard laboratory safety policies.
  • Performs essential unit specific tasks under the direction of RN, e.g. EKGs, height and weight measurements.
  • Reviews orders placed for patient testing and sends lab specimens using PowerChart system.
  • Acquiring vital signs and performing EKG's.
